Abstract
The article looks at a stainless steel spherical model of the Earth's interior, used by geophysicist Daniel Lathrop and his colleagues at the University of Maryland to study the Earth's magnetic field. Particular focus is given to Lathrop's efforts to predict the reversal of Earth's magnetic field. Details on the process known as a dynamo, in which the model will generate a magnetic field, are presented.
