Various degree programmes in the UK offer students the opportunity to undertake a professional placement year in their penultimate year of study. My first individual session as a Psychological Wellbeing Assistant (PWA) in a Neuropsychology Department was with an elderly woman who had suffered a stroke and needed to stay in hospital for rehabilitation.
