Abstract
The article discusses the Canadian Urological Association (CUA) guidelines for the use of antibiotic prophylaxis in urological surgery to prevent postoperative urinary tract infections (UTI). It mentions the CUA guidelines for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), endoscopic surgery and transrectal biopsy of the prostate (TRBP). It informs about recommended guidelines such as risk of UTI in patients undergoing TRBP and reduction in UTI risk in patients undergoing endoscopic surgery.
