Abstract
The article presents information about the simultaneous interpretation project organized by the European Masters in Conference Interpreting (EMCI). EMCI is a consortium of European universities providing conference interpreting training courses in collaboration with the European Institutions. The actual programs offered at the various universities are quite diverse, with different theoretical grounding, teaching approaches and intake criteria. Three years ago, with the common criteria accepted and most Masters courses up and running, it was decided to take advantage of the contacts established within the consortium to develop specific projects on training-related issues. Two such projects were adopted: one on distance learning and the other on simultaneous into B. The simultaneous-into-B project group, after defining a broad programme and expected outcomes, maintained regular contact by e-mail and face-to-face meetings. A workshop was organized in Paris in autumn 2002 to present findings to a broader audience and to open up discussions. This was followed by a summing-up workshop in June 2004. Some trainers have attended all meetings, while others have only participated in sessions on topics that were of special interest to them. The project was intended to be essentially practical, with direct training benefits.
