Abstract
This article discusses the use of sedated trans-nasal endoscopy (sTNE) as an alternative to oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGD) under general anesthesia. OGD, the standard upper gastrointestinal investigational tool, is not well tolerated by some patients, leading to longer waiting times for procedures with anesthesia support. The study found that sTNE was better tolerated by patients and had comparable diagnostic capacity to OGD. All patients who were unable to tolerate sedated OGD were able to tolerate sTNE, and the majority of patient feedback indicated a positive overall experience. The study suggests that sTNE could be a reliable alternative to GA OGDs, potentially reducing waiting times and healthcare resource usage. [Extracted from the article]
