Abstract
This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, discusses the role of transrectal endoscopic ultrasound (TREUS) in the locoregional staging of rectal mucosal lesions (mRL). The study, conducted at two medical centers in Italy, aimed to determine the ability of TREUS to differentiate early stages (T0-T1) from advanced stages (T2-T3) of colorectal cancer (CRC). The results showed that TREUS is a reliable method for staging early mRL, allowing for the selection of appropriate treatment options. The diagnostic accuracy of TREUS was found to be 89.6%, with some cases being both over-staged and under-staged. The study suggests that TREUS can be beneficial in guiding effective and minimally invasive local treatments for early stages of CRC. [Extracted from the article]
