Abstract
Zero Field NMR (ZFNMR) signals at room temperature have been recorded for both bulk cobalt and carbon-encapsulated cobalt nanopowder (CECN). A homemade ZFNMR spectrometer has been used for the NMR study. Three clear peaks in the NMR signals can be observed in bulk cobalt since it is known to exist in two phases: Face Cantered Cubic (fcc) and Hexagonal Close Packing (hcp). A pair of NMR signal observed in CECN correlates to the existence of only fcc phase. Further evidence for the structural phases comes from the powder XRD data. The study demonstrates that the ZFNMR technique is an effective and efficient tool to identify and quantify the structural phases as well to study the magnetic domain state of ferromagnetic systems.
