Abstract
This study examined public VR agencies (n = 27) throughout the United States and examined agency barriers when alcohol and other drugs of abuse (AODA) was involved. Specifically, state Directors were asked to identify the procedures of handling coexisting disabilities (e.g., screening, formal policy and procedures on referral for substance abuse treatment services) and eligibility of services for clients with substance use disorders (SUDs). The results of this study showed that VR agencies have limited knowledge of the importance of screening for SUDs and the procedures that are needed when AOD issues are present. Discussion and implications are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
