Highlights • Our protocol showed good results in the quantitative and qualitative evaluations. • DNA extracted by the adapted protocol obtained the best purity parameters. • DNA extracted by our protocol proved to be well conserved and suitable for use in WGS. • Cost per sample was much lower than that of similar commercial methods. • Our protocol is an alternative with easy implementation in the laboratory routine.
