Abstract
The article presents the Mexican position on cardiovascular screening and evaluation prior to sports participation in athletes. The importance of conducting annual medical evaluations, including medical history and electrocardiogram, to identify those at risk of sudden cardiac death is highlighted. The use of tools and tests such as surface electrocardiogram and exercise testing is also mentioned, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of cardiac diseases. The importance of imaging methods, such as echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance, in the evaluation of athletes and high-performance sportspeople is discussed. Additionally, the relationship between pulmonary arterial hypertension, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes is addressed, as well as recommendations for sports participation in athletes with cardiac diseases. The importance of early detection of cardiac abnormalities is also mentioned, and the legal responsibilities of physicians in assessing athletes' fitness to participate in sports are discussed.
