Abstract
The article focuses on the Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Pilot for newborns and young children in Australia. The screening tests covered in the pilot include genetic screening via saliva swab and islet autoantibody screening via an at-home fingerprick dried bloodspot kit. Symptoms of type 1 diabetes associated with Stage 3/4 that healthcare professionals must be aware of include increased thirst, increased urination, fatigue and weight loss.
