Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of commercially available blue lens on photoparoxysmal responses (PPR). Methods: We prospectively collected data of 92 consecutive patients (69 women, mean 37.5 years) with photoparoxysmal response (PPR), who were referred to our EEG laboratory from January 2004 to December 2005. A commercially available blue lens, named Z1, obtained in previous trials, was used to test consecutively enrolled epilepsy patients with photosensitivity. In each EEG recording, a standardized method was used for photo stimulation. Results: Z1 lens completely abolish PPR in 70 or 92 patients (76%), while PPR was considerable reduced in an additional 19 (20.6%) of them. PPR remained unchanged only in the remaining three patients. Conclusions: The results of this study confirm the usefulness of Z1 lenses in abolishing PPR. These lenses may be tested in every patient with PPR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
