Abstract
A ~10 µm thick liquid lithium film, flowing at ~50 m s bombarded by a 65 keV, 300 W proton beam was successfully tested at Argonne National Laboratory for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). An ion source, originally developed for the low energy demonstration accelerator, with a new beam transport system built at FRIB, deposited the proton beam in the lithium film at 43 % of the beam power expected at FRIB when accelerating 400 kW of uranium beam at 200 MeV per nucleon. This technology may also be applicable to other high power target areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
