Abstract
This study suggests that a palliative care curriculum is well received among dermatology residents and may increase confidence in GOC discussions and palliative care referrals. Https://doi.org/10.1093/ced/llad024 Dear Editor, Dermatology utilizes palliative approaches through symptom management and improving quality of life (QoL).[1] However, dermatology and palliative care are rarely mentioned together despite the unmet palliative needs of dermatology patients.[2],[3] Currently, there are no published palliative educational programmes for dermatologists.[4] Studies in other specialties have indicated that short educational programmes for residents increase knowledge and comfort with palliative care.[5] The objectives of this study were to develop a palliative care curriculum for dermatology residents, and to assess knowledge, skills and attitudes towards palliative care in dermatology residents before and after the curriculum. Future studies should examine objective measures of a palliative curriculum's effect on dermatology residents; methods for decreasing perceived barriers to palliative care; and retention of palliative care principles.
