Abstract
The article describes the case of a U.S. Army soldier in New York who died of rabies. Symptoms experienced by the patient upon admission to the hospital include nausea and vomiting. A nuchal skin biopsy and other tests detected an Afghanistan canine rabies virus variant. It was found that the patient was bitten by a dog while in Afghanistan but had not received rabbies postexposure prophylaxis.
