Abstract
The article examines the role of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the development and implementation of tools for laboratory diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Topics include WHO's role in coordinating and helping member countries in responding to emerging pathogens, developing normative guidance and regulatory frameworks and supporting members' capacity through training and simulation exercises, and the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response system (GISRS).
