Abstract
The article explores teaching strategies for developing reading comprehension and literacy skills in children suffering from autism spectrum disorder. The author reflects on different theories that explain cognitive processing style such as Theory of Mind, weak central coherence, and executive function. Information is offered on how to engage students and adapting a text to meet a learner's needs. Other topics include understanding character development, students' background knowledge, and comprehending spoken words.
