Abstract
The article focuses on the Turkestan incident in 1967 when two F-105 Thunderchief pilots violated policy by firing at a Soviet ship in a Vietnamese harbor. Topics include the decision of their commander, Colonel Jacksel "Jack" Broughton, to shield them from the consequences, the geopolitical implications of the incident, and the court-martial that followed.
