Abstract
The article discusses optimal decision making with algorithm multi-hypothesis sequential probability ratio test (MSPRT) which is applied by combining the basal ganglia (BG) and cortex. It states that BG plays a critical role in resolving competition to the most salient requests for behavioral expression on the action selection in animals. It notes that biologically realistic neurons may take advantage of the properties of natural spike trains to enhance decision making in the cortex-BG complex.
