Abstract
Presents a study on the role of plant chemistry in the selection of winter forage by subarctic browsing vertebrates. Moderation of the vertebrate herbivore forage selection patterns by plant palatability; Debate as to which plant chemical characteristics control palatability; Nourishment by vertebrate herbivores upon a wide variety of plant species whose tissues vary in proximal nutrient and secondary constituent content.
