Abstract
The article presents a study on the literary resources for martyrdom in the eastern Mediterranean and the investigation of archaeological evidence for early Christian martyr crypts. The author emphasized that the cult of Christian relics follows a very old Greco-Roman tradition. The Halmyris martyr cult represents a unique case in early Christian archaeology, where a literary account is confirmed through archaeological, anthropological, and epigraphical evidence.
