Abstract
The article discusses case studies based on historical fisheries in Gulf of Maines. One study compared five discrete datapoints of annual catch and catch density (CD) for American shad from 1634 to 1999. Other studies included a comparison of discontinuous and continuous time series of yearly catch and CD for 18 species and two species group. It concludes that integrating fisheries history with fisheries science may help in developing ecosystem-based management.
