Abstract
An essay is presented on the Great Organ at the Memorial Music Hall in Methuen, Massachusetts. It offers a brief history of the creation of the instrument, which is considered as the most interesting event in the musical history of the New World. It aims to accompany the first recordings to be made on the organ including composer Franz Liszt's great Sonata in C minor. It explores the dramatic and coloristic resources of the instrument, leading to a new period of organ writing.
