Abstract
The Northern Endoscopy Training Academy (NETA) in Northern England offers a 4-week immersion program for novice gastroscopy trainees, consisting of 20 dedicated training lists (DTLs) at one of four immersion centers. The impact of this program on skill acquisition and time to achieve certification was measured by comparing data from an immersion group and a non-immersion group. The immersion group completed more procedures and achieved higher rates of intubation and competency compared to the non-immersion group. The immersion group also achieved certification in a significantly shorter time period compared to previous non-immersion groups. This study suggests that early high-volume procedure completion can lead to faster acquisition of key performance indicators (KPIs) for certification. [Extracted from the article]
