Abstract
The article discusses the factors to be considered in dynamical climate reanalysis in climate research. It is said that major efforts are needed to bring together more of the available data into a coherent form that is suitable for climate reanalysis. A major problem with current reanalysis systems is the poor quality of surface fluxes of heat and freshwater over the oceans It is important to understand the atmospheric circulation. Uncertainty regarding the true multidecadal temperature trends aloft are highlighted by climate datasets of tropospheric temperature from satellites, radiosondes and reanalyses.
