The article offers information on impact of meteorological observations at stations over land areas to understand the weather and climate. Topics discussed include standardize methods of observations, data formats, and metadata under the World Meteorological Organization; need to understand climatic processes, climate variability, climate and weather extremes; and Data sharing is complex, involving both data rescue and data policy.
