Abstract
This letter published in the journal Neurological Sciences discusses a rare case of bilateral optic perineuritis (OPN) that mimicked idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). The patient, a 62-year-old woman, presented with bilateral vision loss and severe headache. After ruling out other potential causes, the diagnosis of bilateral OPN was made based on an orbit MRI scan that showed bilateral peripheral enhancement of the optic nerve sheaths. The patient was treated with high-dose corticosteroids and plasma exchange, resulting in significant improvement in visual acuity and headache. The authors emphasize the importance of considering OPN in the differential diagnosis of bilateral visual loss and headache to ensure prompt treatment and optimal recovery of visual function.
