Abstract
Objective: To evaluate neurodevelopmental outcome of prematures born less than 32 gestational weeks and /or with very low birth weight (<1500 g) at the age of three. Material and Methods: In this study neurodevelopmental characteristics (used Denver II developmental screening test, DGTT II) and neurological sequelae ( Amiel Tison) were examined retrospectively. Results: Seventeen hundred infants 27-42 (mean:35,8-2,3) months of age were evaluated. There were 57 female , 60 male patients and mean birth weight and gestational age were: 1271±22,09 gr and 31± 2,1 weeks respectively. Most important acute morbidities were as follows: Respiratory distress syndrome (21%), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (%8), severe retinopathy of prematurity (5%), sepsis (21%), severe intraventricular hemorrhage (7%), Apgar score <6 (24%) . 9,4% patients had major neurological sequelae; ten cases had cerebral palsy, five had hydrocephalus and blindness was recorded in two cases. Denver II Developmental screening Test was abnormal in 23% of cases. Conclusion: Our neurodevelopmental assessment results were similar to the literature. One of the most important risk factors, in neurodevelopmental retardation was transport. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
