Abstract
We certainly have won the battle of managing VAD infections with transplantation, and indeed most patients won't qualify for an urgent transplant without a complication such as a device infection. This study reassures that patients with controlled or resolved infection may be safely transplanted, even with the use of posttransplant induction therapy such as rabbit antithymocyte globulin. Lambardi et al. describe a cohort of 75 VAD patients at a single institution: 16 (21%) patients had a chronic VAD-related infection requiring suppressive antibiotics. [Extracted from the article]
