Abstract
The article discusses the highlights of the 2013 International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) Asian-Pacific Regional Audit on the epidemiology, costs and burden of osteporosis in India. Topics discussed include an overview of India's population, economy and osteoporosis as a major concern, the prevalence of osteoporosis and osteopenia and results of the Indian Council for Medical Research's (ICMR) study which showed that Indians have lower bone mineral density (BMD) than North Americans.
