Abstract
Importantly, Fischer takes the reader beyond the stereotypical and limited notion that Blacks mainly contributed to the founding of the USA through brute labor on plantations. In Fischer's grandiose style, Africans in early America are placed exactly where they should be: as American founders. Interspersed throughout are anecdotes from Fischer and his wife Judy's trip to Africa in 1997, which Fischer uses to boost his ethos and give an intimate feel to the history.
