Abstract
The article discusses the case of a 29-year-old woman in Grenoble, France who developed fatal measles without rash. She complained of fever, cough, coryza, diarrhea and weight loss. Her physical examination showed fever, dyspnea and low body mass index, while laboratory tests detected nonregenerative anemia and leukopenia with profound lymphopenia. She was admitted to the intensive care unit after a number of days due to severe respiratory failure. She underwent venoarterial extracorporal membrane oxygenation as a result of refractory acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). A serologic analysis was able to detect immunoglobulin M against measles virus. The patient died of hemorrhagic shock after two weeks of oxygenation therapy for her respiratory condition.
