Abstract
The article discusses the findings of an investigation into potential exposures to attenuated vaccine strain Brucella abortus RB51 during a laboratory proficiency test (LPS) in the U.S. and Canada in 2007. Follow-up by public health officials with LPS-participating laboratories identified 916 laboratory workers with potential RB51 exposure. This highlighted the need for routine adherence to recommended biosafety practices when working with infectious organisms.
