Abstract
The article discusses the diagnostic tests needed to eliminate African trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, a life-threatening parasitic infection transmitted by the tsetse fly in sub-Saharan Africa. Topics include trypanosome subspecies that cause the disease, reason that human African trypanosomiasis diagnosis relies on laboratory techniques, and target product profiles for trypanosomiasis diagnostic tests.
