Abstract
We hypothesized that Kaletra in combination with lamivudine/zidovudine (Combivir) is equally effective and not associated with more adverse effects than nevirapine (Viramune) and Combivir in pregnant women. Treatment increased the fraction of women with viral loads of less than 1,000 from 27% to 100% in the Kaletra group and 42% to 97% in the Viramune group. Our data suggest that the combination of Kaletra and Combivir is a valid option for the treatment of HIV infection during pregnancy. [Extracted from the article]
