Abstract
The article discusses the war declared by the communist group Khmer Rouge on the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping effort during the week in which Cambodia's first free elections were supposed to start in 1993. The UN thought the Khmer Rogue, the genocidal communists led by Pol Pot, will support the formation of a legitimate government only to find out that it is now the target of their terrorism. The group intensified attacks across the country as spokesman Khieu Samphan announced the group's withdrawal from the Supreme National Council, which was created by the UN to help reconcile warring factions in Cambodia.
