Abstract
This article discusses the clinical efficacy of endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) for upper gastrointestinal wall defects, such as anastomotic leaks and acute perforations, after surgery. The study compares the effectiveness of two commercially available EVT options, EndoSponge (ES) and VAC-Stent (VS), in a tertiary referral center. The primary outcome measures were technical success and clinical efficacy, with secondary outcomes including treatment duration, number of EVT changes, and adverse events. The study found that a combined EVT approach using ES and VS had a high efficacy, and the location of the leakage and size of the defect influenced the choice of treatment.
