Abstract
This work analyses the fast loss of flow accident (fLOFA) of the IAEA 10 MW MTR reactor. A three-dimensional analytical model proposal is used for the volumetric heat flow and the temperature field in the fuel pellet, in the cladding and in the coolant is calculated at three different time instants. The CFD code ANSYS Fluent was used to perform the numerical simulation (which comprises the conjugate heat transfer phenomenon). The comparison of the results produced with similar previous studies in the literature made it possible to identify which additional parameters should be considered and led to the proposition of a new improved model.
