Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated the link between high-dose allopurinol and prolonged exercise capability in patients with chronic stable angina. The double-blind and randomised placebo-controlled study involved 65 patients aged 18 to 85 years who are suffering from coronary artery disease and have a positive exercise tolerance test and stable chronic angina pectoris. Computer-generated randomisation was used to assign patients to allopurinol or placebo. It was found that the drug seems to be useful and well tolerated anti-ischaemic drug.
