Abstract
This article summarizes a study that examined the use of drain fluid amylase levels on the first postoperative day (POD1) to predict the development of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) after pancreatic surgery. The study included 185 patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy between April 2014 and April 2018. The results showed that a POD1 amylase level higher than 1883 U/L had the best accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value for predicting POPF. The study suggests that a cut-off point of 1883 U/L for POD1 drain fluid amylase level may be useful in predicting clinically relevant POPF in patients undergoing pancreatic resection.
