Abstract
The letter discusses the phenomenon of extended range of vision in patients who have received monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). The authors note that some patients with monofocal IOLs achieve multifocality and are highly satisfied with their vision. They also discuss the drawbacks of trifocal IOLs, which compromise contrast and can cause dysphotopic symptoms. The authors suggest that identifying the factors responsible for extended range of vision could lead to the development of IOLs with minimal side effects. They propose incorporating the principles of physics that occur naturally in the eye into IOL design. The authors commend the authors of the original article for addressing the issue of extended range of vision and suggest that the industry should take note and develop IOLs based on these principles.
