Abstract
The article explores how the decision by the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) to adopt the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills social studies standards has influenced the secondary study of American History throughout the United States. The Republican-biased SBOE made significant changes to approved curriculum content based on political ideologies. Subjects explored include the historical importance of Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, McCarthyism and the Cold War, and historical revisionism.
