Abstract
The occurrence of LM in HIV-negative patients with comorbidities is thought to be the result of an abnormal immune response triggered by these systemic conditions, which results in a more severe skin manifestation. Lues maligna (LM), also known as malignant syphilis, is one of the rare and severe presentations of secondary syphilis, usually affecting immunocompromised individuals. The diagnostic criteria include typical clinical and histological features along with high levels of VDRL titers, the presence of acute and severe Jarisch-Herxheimer reactions, and a rapid improvement of lesions with appropriate treatment.4 Lues maligna is more commonly encountered in immunocompromised individuals.
