520 | ▼aThis qualitative study examines the use of in a one-to-one initiative at an elementary school. Digital Didactical Design serves as the framework for this research which seeks to identify the ways in which teachers are using IPadsTM, the attributes of meaningful learning present in their instruction, and the benefits, challenges, and outcomes of teaching with IPadsTM in a one-to-one environment.Teachers used IPadsTM in both conventional and unconventional ways. Conventional use of IPadsTM was observed through the practice, demonstration, and/or access of content knowledge. Unconventional use was observed when students were collaborative, creating, and/or problem-solving.The attributes of active, collaborative, and constructive learning were all present in both observations and interviews with teachers. The attribute of authentic learning was present in all but one observation; however, teachers had difficulty providing examples during interviews. The attribute of goal-directed learning was observed in less than half of the classrooms and no teachers were able give examples during their interview.Teachers in this study perceive the benefits of instructing with IPadsTM to be immediate feedback, reinforcement, independent learning, access, differentiated instruction, different modalities, and modeling. They perceive the challenges to be personal, problems with technology, students' distractions, and lacking student abilities. Teachers in this study choose to use IPadsTM in their instruction due to the outcomes of increased student engagement and excitement, real-world and interactive experiences, and to inspire creativity and deeper learning.▲ | ||
