The lecture recital centered on how this work plays a significant role of carrying on the past heritage from Baroque and Classical music and simultaneously foreshadows later music styles such as Neoclassicism and atonal music. The lecture was divided into four parts. The first part briefly talked about the background of Op. 116. The second part concentrated on the significance of Bach and his music in Brahms' process of composing this work. In the third part it focused on how Op. 116 was also considered as a progressive and innovative work in terms of harmonic language and meter. The fourth part discussed Brahms' other later compositional approaches such as developing variation and polymeter.▲ | ||
