Abstract
Descriptions are given of a tapering spark discharger for developing pulses with decades of kilovolts and 10/sup -10/ to 10/sup -9/ sec leading pulses. Following a series of experiments, the leading pulses were reduced from 0.8 x 10/ sup -6/ to 10/sup -9/ sec. The results indicated that an optimum taper length and stability with minimum pulse duration can be found for a given pulse amplitude. In order to reduce the output pulse duration it is necessary to reduce the incoming pulse duration. A consequent switching of tapering discharges can reduce the leading pulse from 10/sup -6/ to 10/sup -9/ sec and less. (R.V.J.)
