Abstract
Successful management of retinal detachment is dependent on the underlying etiology, complexity of pathoanatomy and unique patient characteristics. A growing therapeutic armamentarium has led to more options for vitreoretinal surgery and a greater variety of surgeon choice. Recent advancements in technology and surgical equipment have led to changes in the practice patterns of vitreoretinal surgeons. This paper will review the major aspects of retinal detachment, the history of retinal detachment management and summarize the emerging trends and the preferred practice patterns of vitreoretinal surgeons in the management of retinal detachment.
