Abstract
Transverse-flux-type switched reluctance motors (TFSRMs) have a three-dimensional structure and are expected to exhibit a larger torque than conventional SRMs due to their high winding -space factor. However, a trial three-phase TFSRM was found to have an unbalanced current and torque, which causes vibration and acoustic noise. The mechanism of this unbalanced current has not been clarified yet. This paper investigates the cause of the unbalanced current by using a three-dimensional finite element method (3D-FEM). Furthermore, it presents a two-phase TFSRM that improves the unbalanced current.
