Abstract
Increasing attention is being paid to the corporate venturing as a strategy for creating competitive advantage in the organization. Although corporate venturing is widely studied, there is a lack of consensus as to the concept and typology of corporate venturing and limited empirical studies that focus on the effect of corporate venturing on innovative performance. In the current research, we identify the concept of corporate venturing. Moreover, this study examines how corporate venturing affects innovative performance and whether the diversity of cooperation partner guarantee the efficiency on a firm. From literature review, corporate entrepreneurship is defined as entrepreneurial activity to develop new businesses and conduct transformation of organizations through renewal of the key ideas within existing firms. One of the important sub-sets of corporate entrepreneurship is the corporate venturing, which is consist of internal and external corporate venturing. For the analysis of this research, We tested our hypothese with Korean Innovation Survey (KIS) which was conducted by the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI) composed of 286 Korean manufacturing firms. Our results demonstrated that corporate venturing was positively related to innovative performance. In addition, findings also showed that cooperation partners’ diversity played an important moderating role such that it weakened the positive effect of corporate venturing on innovative performance. Drawing upon the findings of this research, we discussed theoretical andmanagerial implication and limitations.
