Abstract
It is more essential than ever that forecasting longterm future trends while multidisciplinary interest in forecasting is on the rise. Therefore, this study intended to predict the change of future clothing trends by 2040. For this study Delphi technique is applied which can increase credibility and objectivity by using collective intelligence. The results were as follows. First, the evaluation of the possibility of the future clothing trend in Korea indicated that the ‘healthcare wear’ is most likely to occur. On the other hand, the trends that were less likely to occur were ‘revitalization of vintage clothing distribution', ‘activation of rental services’, and ‘popularization of virtual reality fashion shows’. Second, as a result of the questionnaire about the social impacts of major trends of future clothing in Korea, ‘healthcare wear’, ‘wearable computer as a daily wear', and ‘activation of the clothing industry for the silver generation’ took a high position. Meanwhile, trends of ‘popularization of virtual reality fashion shows' and ‘activation of vintage clothing distribution’ tend to be somewhat lower than those of other items. Third, the possibility and influence analysis matrix of future clothing trends in Korea provided two groups of the items with high probability of occurrence and influence, and relatively low items. They were classified as ‘technologyfriendly' and ‘environment friendly' lifestyles. In this study, since the key trends derived from the future reports are used as the main words of the questionnaire, there is a concern that the contents could be a general discussion. However, it is anticipated that more detailed results will be obtained if the subdivided items are applied to a situation. By providing these basic data, it is expected that the clothing industry and companies will contribute to setting clear directions and targets for each situation.
